The Exam will be conducted in two-stage. Stage-I is conducted by the respective state & Union territory and Stage-II is conducted by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). Every year around 13-14 lakhs candidates appear for the Stage-I exam. For Stage-II only 4000-5000 candidates will appear for the exam. The candidates need to qualify for both sections of the paper to be eligible for the next stage. This article will provide all the detail please read carefully for full information.

Who will be eligible?
The candidates who are studying in Class 10th are eligible for the exam. Candidates must be less than 18 years old for eligible for this exam. Stage-I is conducted by the respective states. And stage-II is conducted by NCERT all over India. The student is not employed they should be enrolled for Class 10th.
Exam Pattern:
- There will be no negative marking.
- The candidates qualifying for both papers will be considered for the merit list.
- 40% marks for General and OBC candidates in both papers to qualify for the exam.
- 32% marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates in both papers to qualify for the exam.
- The exam will be conducted in Offline mode.
- OMR-based questions were asked in the exam.
Part – I
- The sections have questions of Aptitude, Reasoning, and Analytical skills.
- This section is just to know the students’ ability to think and to solve reasoning questions.
- The sections consist of 100 marks. 1 mark MCQs will be asked.
- The main topics are Coding-Decoding, Problem-solving, hidden figures, pattern perception, etc.
- This section consists of 100 marks which further include Mathematics – 20, Science – 40, and Social Science – 40.
- The candidates need to refer to Class 9th and Class 10th textbooks for scoring well in the NTSE exam.
- The time allotted for SAT part is 120 minutes.
- The level of the questions is equivalent to the Class 10th exam.
- Stage-I
- Stage-I will comprise two papers. Mental aptitude test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

- Stage-II
- The pattern will be similar to Stage-I. Stage-II will be conducted by NCERT.
Scholarship Details:
- The candidates will be awarded INR 1250 per month for the 11th and 12th standards.
- The candidates will be awarded INR 2000 per month for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
- Scholarship for Ph.D. Candidates will be awarded as per UGC norms.
Exam Medium:
- The exam will be conducted in 13 languages.
- The languages are Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Asamiya, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Punjabi.
- The students should mention the language while filling in the application form.
- After filling the chosen language you can’t change it at the exam time.
- The candidates should be studied from Class 9th and Class 10th textbooks. The syllabus is also from Class 9th and Class 10th textbooks.
- For both Stage studies from 9th and 10th class books. Most of the questions asked from the textbooks also. If you thoroughly read the whole textbook.
- Don’t read from many books. First, complete NCERT then starts with any references books if you understand from the books.
- In exam Mental Aptitude Test paper also held. So start with solving aptitude and reasoning basics. And then after practice many questions of the topic to score better in the exam.
- Daily devote 4-5 hours for the preparation. Solve many questions so you don’t surprise at the exam time. And it will be easy for you to solve the questions if you practice.
- Don’t mug up any concepts of reasoning and aptitude. Understand them and practice many questions so you can perform well in the NTSE exam.
- Try to manage your time properly. While in exam most of the candidates doesn’t solve full paper if they know also. To manage time so you can solve all the questions in a given time.
Marking scheme for NTSE Paper:
- Stage – I
- 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer.
- There will be no negative marking for Stage – I.
- Stage –II
- 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer.
- There will be no negative marking for Stage – II.
NTSE Reservation Criteria:
- Scheduled Caste – 15%
- Scheduled Tribe – 7.5%
- PwD – 3%
How to fill Application Form – Stage 1?
- Firstly visit the state and union territory website.
- After that select the NTSE section given on the website and then click NTSE Application Form.
- Enter all the details such as Student Name, gender, date of birth, Caste, Academic details, Mobile number, Family number, and more.
- Upload the required documents and your signature in the application form.
- Pay the application fee online mode.
- Download the application form and sign it by the school principal and after that, you can appear for the NTSE exam.
